See the Stars Shine at the American Century Championship
Lake Tahoe is approaching its most talked about event of the year, the American Century Championship. Held every year at Edgewood Golf Course, the best sports players and entertainment stars bring their A-game to compete for a grand prize of $125,000. The action-packed week begins July 11 through July 16 with several activities and events for attendees of all ages.
The tournament has raised approximately $4.6 million since its inception in 1990 and all funds support a range of non-profits. For this year’s ACC, the funds will support Stowers Institute for Medical Research. The institute is home to 550 dedicated researchers working to treat, diagnose and prevent diseases.
This year, the ACC is hosting some of the greatest celebrities in the entertainment and sports industries. Former NFL Player Tony Romo will be joined by Pro-Bowl Defensive End Jared Allen, as well as Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. NBA MVP and 2017 NBA Finals Championship winner Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors will also make an appearance. Two-time MLB All-Star and two-time ACC champion Mark Mulder will return to compete for a third championship among five MLB Hall of Famers. Other major celebrities consist of ten-time Grammy winner Justin Timberlake, actor/comedian Larry the Cable Guy, actor Ray Romano and newcomer, social media activist and professional golfer Paige Spiranac. The tournament hosts a variety of events, but one of the most popular highlights of the week is the Celebrity Spray-Off Challenge, sponsored by Korbel Champagne. During this challenge, celebrities compete to see who can get the furthest distance by popping off the cork to a champagne bottle. The challenge is scheduled for Thursday, July 13 at 3:30 p.m.
Another crowd favorite is the Hole-in-One/Closest to the Pin Challenge that occurs on Edgewood Golf Course’s famous Hole No. 17. Spectators gather to watch celebrities make their best attempt at a hole-in-one, while the lake sits as the backdrop creating the most beautiful and entertaining scenes. Plan for this event on Friday, July 14 at 3:45 p.m.
