Northstar toasts California laid-back style with on-mountain thrill

Known for its impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing, world-class terrain parks and enough variety to challenge every level of skier, Northstar California Resort combines California laid-back luxury with on-mountain excitement to make for a great ski and board experience. It’s no wonder then that beginning this season, Northstar asks its guests to celebrate the mountains and Lake Tahoe with them and raise their flutes with a toast of bubbles every day at 2 p.m.

Partnering with The Ridge Tahoe, interchangeable lift tickets to Northstar are available with any Ridge Tahoe ski vacation package. Northstar is a 45-minute drive to the north shore side of Lake Tahoe. It offers 3,170 acres of skiable terrain on 97 trails. Of the terrain, 27% of the mountain is considered advanced, 60% intermediate, 13% beginner.

Northstar

Northstar’s elevation ranges from 6,330 feet at the village, 6,800 feet at mid-mountain, and 8,610 at the summit for a total of 2,280 vertical feet. You can see the interactive trail map online.

The longest run is the 1.4 mile Logger’s Loop and there are nine other runs that are 1-mile long with advanced runs on The Backside. Lookout Mountain offers 443 acres of advanced terrain, while Sawtooth Ridge has 344 acres of backcountry terrain open for experts when conditions permit. Northstar has the largest snowmaking system of any resort in North Lake Tahoe, covering more than 50% of the resort’s trails.

Getting up the mountain is easy. Northstar has 20 lifts, two gondolas, one six-pack express, seven quad express chairs, one quad fixed-grip chair, two triple chairs, two tow/surface lifts, and five magic carpets for an uphill capacity of 34,799 skiers per hour.

Northstar has seven terrain parks —the Burton Progression Park, Moonshine (currently closed), The Straits (currently closed), Pipeline, The Stash (currently closed), Lil’ Stash, Pinball — as well as the 13-foot halfpipe.

Learning to ski or just need a refresher? Northstar offers a ski and snowboard school for children and adults, with group and private lessons.

If you enjoy exploring beyond the crowds, Northstar’s Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Center offers 23.7 km of groomed and tracked trails for cross country and telemark skiing and 32.5 km for snowshoeing.

Off the slopes there’s world class ice skating at the 9,000 square foot skating rink surrounded by plenty of shops at the Village at Northstar.

The dining options abound on-mountain and in the village with food on-the-go breakfasts to jump start your day, mid-day lunch choices, casual and fine dining, to Apres Ski, bars and nightlife.
