Music, festivals and comedy lined up through April at South Shore Lake Tahoe
Ski and snowboard competitions, music, film festivals, parties and the famous laid-back Tahoe vibe are all part of the spring windup before the ski season winds down.
Settle in at The Ridge Tahoe with a one or two-bedroom condominium suite or a Deluxe Hotel Room and then explore Tahoe’s ski resorts, gaming, nightlife, star-studded concerts and comedy acts.
Heavenly Mountain Resort celebrates the season’s renewal with Spring Loaded, March 28 through April 6. This spring fling features live music, food and drink specials, contests and the annual Gunbarrel 25, a one-of-a-kind ski/ride marathon where skiers and riders take 25 laps on Heavenly’s famous mogul run, Gunbarrel, off of The Face on the California side in one day.
As Spring Loaded winds down the Red Bull Snow Warz college party starts up April 4-6 with three blockbuster days of skiing/snowboarding, a slopestyle competition, Instagram Challenges and after-parties. Heavenly’s closing day is April 20.
Sierra-at-Tahoe celebrates College Week with the Spring Equinox Festival. Bring a college ID and ski all day for $62. There’s live music too, beginning March 22 with The Soft White Sixties featuring Vokab Kompany. Hot Buttered Rum and The Creak will kick off Sierra’s 11th Annual Telegrass Festival April 5 with telemark skiing clinics, bluegrass music and food and drink specials. Saturday, April 12 brings the 8th annual Buckle Up Big Air competition, featuring day-long rail jams, awards and demonstrations. Sunday April 13 is the 7th annual homemade Salsa Showdown where Sierra guests can bring 2 cups of their homemade salsa creations for judging. The winner receives a 2014-15 Sierra-at-Tahoe season pass.
Feel like catching a live Vegas-style show that can only be found at Tahoe South? Check out MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa‘s outrageous new Sweet Talk: A Delicious Electro-Cirque Kiss. The show features dancers, high-flying aerialists, beat-driven DJs, and a fire performer. The burlesque revue is weekends at MontBleu through April 5, and described as a risqué feast of outrageous light, color and sound.
The MontBleu Theater is also a good place to catch live bands and show-stopping entertainment. The lineup includes Wild & Scenic Film Festival, March 27; The Straits, March 28; BANFF Mountain Film Festival, March 31; Emancipator Ensemble at Blu Nightclub, April 2; Yonder Mountain String Band, April 3, Fabulous Thunderbirds, April 12; and America, May 24.
The South Shore Room of Harrah’s Lake Tahoe features Bruce in the USA, a tribute to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, March 22; ZZ Ward, April 5; The Fab Four Ultimate Beatles Tribute April 12; Taj Mahal, April 19; and The Temptations featuring Dennis Edwards, April 26.
Get laughs by the bucketful at Harveys Lake Tahoe‘s The Improv. Shows start at 9 p.m. every Wednesday through Friday and Sundays, and 8:30 and 10:30 pm on Saturdays. Headliners: Ben Gleib, March 19-23; Tommy Savitt and Maureen Langan, March 26-30; Rachel Feinstein and Don McEnery, April 2-6; Stage Benders and Joel Lindley, April 9-12; Rocky LaPorte and Ron Morey, April 16-20; and Kivi Rogers and Don McEnery, April 23-27.
