Mother’s Day Weekend Lake Tahoe Style: Outdoor Adventure, Shows and Champagne Brunch
Given a choice of staying home or venturing to the Sierra for a weekend of recreation and relaxation, we’re betting Mom will choose The Ridge Tahoe.
Start by choosing accommodations – either a deluxe hotel room or one or two bedroom condominium suite. Then get outside and explore Tahoe South. Take in a day of hiking, biking, golfing or boating and then let her enjoy some relaxation time at The Ridge Tahoe’s Elevation Spa where she can pamper herself and unwind through the journey of body work. Elevation Spa offers treatments and services for health, beauty and total well-being.
A unique adventure this Mother’s Day weekend is less than an hour’s drive from The Ridge Tahoe. The historic V&T Railroad celebrates Mother’s Day weekend with train rides to Virginia City. These special edition train rides depart from Nevada’s capital, Carson City, to the 1860s boom-era mining town of Virginia City. Mom will receive a long stem rose, Old West history, storytelling, shopping and dining in Virginia City to go along with the spectacular scenery. The special diesel train will run Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 10.
For Mother’s Day brunch the Hungry Bear offers a first course of sweet ricotta and Mascarpone stuffed crepes with spring berry compote. The second course is a choice of herb crusted Alaskan halibut with sweet potato and grilled shrimp hash, spring peas and citrus jus; crab cake eggs Benedict, served with cottage potatoes and Old Bay spiced Hollandaise; New York steak and eggs, featuring an 8-ounce choice steak, grilled, with eggs served your way and cottage potatoes; or you can try the house made sour dough pancakes served with Applewood smoked bacon, spring berries and orange or maple syrup.
A Heavenly trio is up for dessert: chocolate Florentine, lemon curd-filled bombolini and strawberry rhubarb tart. Is your mouth watering yet?
The kids menu for children 12 and under features a first course coffee cake, and their choice of a second course: Belgian waffles, two eggs your way, with bacon or house syrup; traditional eggs Benedict, featuring poached egg, smoked ham on an English muffin; or French Toast, served with bacon or sausage link and maple or house syrup. For dessert, a homemade ice cream sandwich. They’ll be as happy as you.
