Heavenly prepares for coming ski and board season
Snow making machines are up and running as Heavenly Mountain Resort plans to open Nov. 22.
One of the largest ski resorts in the U.S., Heavenly, boasts 4,800 acres of skiable terrain that straddles the border of California and Nevada. A formidable 360 inches of snowfall a year and a vertical rise unmatched on the West Coast provides for jaw-dropping views of America’s largest alpine lake.
The West Coast’s largest snow making system continues to prepare the mountain for the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond. Heavenly’s extensive snow making system is capable, under optimum conditions, of producing three-and-a-half feet of snow across one acre in an hour and can cover 73 percent of the resort’s 97 trails in machine-made snow.
Heavenly kicks off the party and the 2013-14 ski and ride season on Friday, November 22, with opening day and the first Unbuckle at Tamarack après party of the season. Unbuckle takes place daily from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with a live DJ, half-priced drinks, giveaways, food specials, lots of dancing and, exclusively on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the lovely Heavenly Angels.
The party continues past opening day with Winter Ignite, featuring Unbuckle après parties, the Heavenly Angels and a special performance by DJ Porter Robinson at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on November 30.
Set to open in December is an expansion of Heavenly’s Adventure Peak. Located at the top of the gondola, the existing zip line has been retrofitted to include a four-lane zip line center, treetop canopy tour, and two ropes courses and an additional 3,000 foot-ling zip line as part of Heavenly’s new Epic Discovery program, which is slated to open 2014.
Whether you’re looking to bring your spouse, significant other or packing up the family for a ski trip, The Ridge offers six ski getaway packages. Three of the six packages also offer a spa option.
Once the Stagecoach lift is open, Ridge guests will be able to be whisked along the Hilltrac Skier Express, a self-operated, gondola-type car that transports skiers from the Resort to Heavenly’s Stagecoach chairlift.
The eight-passenger car sits on a track and with the swipe of a room key, will move passengers down the slope in less than three minutes. The Ridge also has the Resort Sports Ski Shop which provides on-site ski, snowboard and accessory rentals and tune-ups, apparel, gear and Heavenly lift tickets.
