10 reasons to visit Tahoe this fall
With the kids in school and football season underway, you may think there’s fewer vacation or weekend getaway options because of the change in seasons. Sure, the days are getting shorter and the air is a little cooler, but that’s what we love about Lake Tahoe in fall.
Here are our top 10 reasons for you to book a getaway to The Ridge Tahoe.
10: It wouldn’t be fall without the bountiful aspens changing color. You can see some of the colors outside the doorsteps at The Ridge Tahoe or you can head over to Hope Valley to spot bright bursts of sunshine yellow.
9: Getting in 18 holes at the golf courses near The Ridge Tahoe is guaranteed fall fun. Tee-times are available, rates are lower, and you’ll enjoy having the course to yourself. On the lake side there’s Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Lake Tahoe Golf Course, Tahoe Paradise Golf Course and Bijou Municipal Golf Course. Or head down the valley to check out the rolling fairways, water holes and challenging dog legs. Choose from the Lakes Course or the Resort Course at Genoa Lakes or Carson Valley Golf Course in nearby Gardnerville.
8: Brush up on your tennis game and grab a few lessons while you’re at it. The Ridge Tahoe has two outdoor and an indoor court for guests to use. Need a lift in your game? Ask Adam Matzkin, The Ridge Tahoe’s full time tennis pro. Either through free clinics for guests or during a private lesson, Adam will help you take your tennis game to the next level.
7. Sure the water temperature is cooler, but the thrill remains the same. Whether you prefer finding that tranquil peace while paddling a kayak in a secret cove or if you enjoy zipping behind a ski boat or Jet ski, there are several marinas around Tahoe South to find your ideal water craft for adventure on the water.
6: Nearby Heavenly Mountain Resort continues to add more recreation options at the top of the Heavenly Gondola. Guests now have tree swinging and soaring to add to their experience with three new ropes courses and two new zip lines. The ropes courses are designed for families with routes for all ability levels, while the zip lines are ideal draws for adrenaline junkie looking to take in Heavenly’s sweeping views while flying along at speeds up to 55 miles per hour.
5: Get out and explore Lake Tahoe with some of the best hiking around. If what you want a nearby hike with a view, then Heavenly is where it’s at. You can take the Gondola and Tamarack Express chair up 9,800 feet to access some of Tahoe’s most scenic and highest hiking trails. Heavenly offers trail options from beginner to expert, so you can’t go wrong. Then there’s Van Sickle Bi-State Park, located minutes from The Ridge Tahoe, the park allows for nearby hiking with some great views. You can take this easy to moderate hike up to a small waterfall in about 20 to 30 minutes at a moderate pace. If you’re ready for a strenuous challenge, there’s Mt. Tallac, which provides a spectacular view of Fallen Leaf Lake, Lake Tahoe, and Desolation Wilderness. A wilderness permit is required.
4: Whether you like cruise along wide paths with other cyclists or soar down the side of a mountain on a single-track, Tahoe South is crossed with an extensive network of on and off road bicycle trails. You can also check with the staff of The Ridge Tahoe regarding bike rentals and organized rides planned during your stay. For starters, you can download the Lake Tahoe Bike Trail Map. Produced by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, this easy to use trail map is an excellent way to plan your Tahoe cycling adventure – whether it be on the road or on a single-track.
3: Minutes away from The Ridge Tahoe is the casino core that amounts to a full-deck of high-rolling, dice-kissing, slot pulling adventure. Home to world-class casinos that are refreshingly free of Vegas-style glitz, Tahoe South is the place to get your game on. There are five casinos at South Shore to check out with one more on the way, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe is set to open in winter.
