Moms are the greatest, but dads are too. That’s why both have their very own days designated for them. For Dad, why not treat him this Father’s Day weekend with a trip to Sierra and a stay at The Ridge Tahoe?
Choose your accommodations a one or two bedroom condominium suite or a deluxe hotel room for the weekend. Onsite, Dad can sit poolside, get in a good workout at The Ridge clubhouse, hit the tennis courts or take in a massage and spa.
Outdoor adventure begins this Father’s Day weekend at Heavenly Mountain Resort, adjacent to The Ridge Tahoe, with the launch of a new series of high flying zip lines.
Dad can swing through the trees and fly through the air via zip lines and ropes courses such as Boulder Cove and Black Bear Challenge, the Discovery Forest Canopy Course and the 3,300 foot-long Blue Streak zip line. The three new ropes courses and Blue Streak zip line will add to the current summer activities at the top of the Gondola including hiking, sightseeing, Spider Climber, climbing wall, and dining at Tamarack Lodge.
The adventure begins Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The courses will be open Fridays through Sundays through summer.
Off the hill, you can treat Dad to a round of golf at any number of golf courses between Tahoe and Carson Valley. Golfer’s looking for the ultimate Lake Tahoe backdrops, have four courses to choose from at South Shore: the famed Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, home to the 25th Annual American Century Championship July 15-20; Lake Tahoe Golf Course, a spectacular mountain meadow course with plenty of challenge and superb views; Tahoe Paradise Golf Course, an executive course in nearby Meyers known for its towering pine trees and Bijou Municipal Golf Course. On the Carson Valley side there’s the Lakes Course at Genoa Lakes; The Resort Course at Genoa Lakes, and the Carson Valley Golf Course in nearby Gardnerville.
If Dad likes to fish, he’s in luck. Lake Tahoe is abundant with lake trout, also known as mackinaw. These deep lake fish can weigh more than 30 pounds and are quite a thrill to catch.
There’s a number of charter outfits around Tahoe South that offer mackinaw fishing packages. Guides are known for taking their passengers out to the sweetest spots, best known for catching the big ones.
Looking for some close by outdoor recreation adventure on two wheels? The South Lake Tahoe region is crossed with an extensive network of on and off road bicycle trails. You can also check with the staff of Ridge Tahoe regarding bike rentals and organized rides planned during your stay.
Nightlife over Father’s Day weekend includes gaming at any of South Shore’s famed casinos, a free Saturday concert at Heavenly Village, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame legend Eric Burdon Saturday night, June 14 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe South Shore Room and comedy at The Improv inside Harveys Lake Tahoe.
