As the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend adventure takes hold at Tahoe. Check into a room of your choice for the long weekend and then check out the happenings around the lake.
Whether you plan to hike, bike, hit the beach, play a round of golf, rent a boat or take a sightseeing tour of Lake Tahoe aboard the M.S. Dixie II or Tahoe Queen, there’s plenty to do and see during your stay.
The Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola will be open for sightseeing May 24-26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Memorial Day weekend and will open for full seven-day-a-week operations for summer on June 13. Check in with The Ridge Tahoe front desk staff regarding shuttle service to and from the gondola.
The gondola transports guests 3,000 feet above Lake Tahoe to the Mid-Station Observation Deck, where you can enjoy stunning views of Lake Tahoe, Desolation Wilderness, and Carson Valley. At the top of the gondola, challenge yourself on the 25-foot climbing wall, designed for beginner to advanced climbers. Kids can play in a safe environment on the Spider Zone climbing tower. Tamarack Lodge will be open for dining and drinks. Or you could enjoy varied hiking trails of green and blue levels.
As above so below: the party continues at Heavenly Village with free concerts, Friday and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday’s live jam session features electronic music from NVO, and on Saturday it’s funk/jam music with Liquid Kactus.
Stick around Heavenly Village Friday through Monday for the Lake Tahoe Summer Kick Off Car & Bike Show. The event features trophies, poker runs and sidewalk sales.
Like shopping for art? The Tahoe Art League Outdoor Summer Art Shows begin over Memorial Day weekend, Friday through Monday, with the first show of the season at corner of Hwy 50 and Emerald Bay Road.
